Move: Feline Flow

Happy Friday to You, Fitness Friends!

As you know, both Andrea and Rebecca participate in many races throughout the year. Races can be a great way to get you motivated, set new goals, and accomplish something you never thought you could.  Many of these races also work with charities to raise funds and awareness about many causes, from feeding the poor to helping fund research for diseases.

One of our readers, Frederick L., asked us to highlight a race that supports a cause near and dear to his heart.  The Bunny Bolt, in its third year, is an Easter-themed event that is great for families and serious runners alike.  Raising funds for Action for Amyloidosis, participants can choose distances of 5K or 10K. or families can join the Kids 1K Rabbit Rush, in the beautiful setting of City Park in Denver, Colo. There are egg hunts, vendors, and all runners and walkers receive an official race-day t-shirt and goody bag.  Strollers and pets are also welcome!

Frederick and some of his friends since childhood started Action for Amyloidosis in 2009 after the death of their mother, Anne Robinson.  Because of its rarity, many people do not know about this disease.  Action for Amyloidosis strives to bring awareness and education about the disease, in addition to using funds raised to benefit patients, families, the medical community, and others affected by it.  It is non-profit and 100 percent run by volunteers.

So what is Amyloidosis?  According to their website, "amyloidosis is a disease that occurs when substances called amyloid proteins build up in your organs.  Amyloid is an abnormal protein usually produced by cells in your bone marrow that can be depostied in any tissue or organ.  Amyloidosis can affect different organs in different people, and there are many types of amyloid.  Amyloidosis frequently affects the heart, kidneys, liver, spleen, nervous system and gastrointestinal tract. Amyloidosis is rare, and the exact cause is often unknown."

While we are both out of town for this event, if you are in the Denver area and would like to participate in the Bunny Bolt on Sunday, April 13th, please click the link above for race and registration details. We work to make this fitness community a strong one, so any support we can give one another helps!

If you have a cause or fitness event you would like us to write about, please send us an email at fitnessfelines@gmail.com.

Have a great weekend!
